Transaction eligibility and exclusions

If a transaction fits multiple categories, HSBC classifies it in this order: 0.4% basic-rate transactions, 2.5% designated spend, then 1% local and overseas purchases.

Transactions that earn the 0.4% basic rate

  • Octopus Automatic Add Value Service and Octopus top-up transactions.
  • Eligible online bill payments made through HSBC Mobile or Online Banking, or through a qualifying bill-payment platform.
  • Local supermarket transactions.
  • Insurance premium payments.
  • Payments for securities trading.
  • Rent and property management fee payments.
  • Payments for advertising services.

Not eligible for RewardCash

  • Finance and bank charges.
  • Cash advances and withdrawals under cash or spending instalment plans.
  • Tax payments.
  • Purchases or reloads of stored-value cards or e-wallets, except qualifying Octopus transactions.
  • Transactions, including top-ups, made through e-wallets.
  • Other spending excluded by the RewardCash Programme Terms and Conditions.
  • Unposted, cancelled, or subsequently refunded transactions.
  • Fraudulent or abusive transactions, including personal-card spending for business purposes or transactions that do not represent a genuine purchase or valid bill payment.

The HSBC EveryMile Credit Card earns 2.5% RewardCash at designated cafés, transport and travel merchants, 1% on other eligible local and overseas purchases, and 0.4% on supermarkets and other designated basic-rate transactions. Its modelled preferential conversion rate is HK$0.05 RewardCash per mile, although HSBC may change this rate in the Reward+ app.
